We're Building Futures
through Rugby
How We Make It Happen
The beauty of what we do lies in its simplicity; a ball, a game, a team.
But it’s never just about the game. Through our framework of Engage, Educate, and Impact, we create spaces where young people lead, learn, and grow. Confidence is built, connections are made, and opportunities take shape.
Fun Engagement
Tag rugby is for everyone. It’s easy to play, easy to teach, and instantly rewarding. Mass participation builds trust and brings communities together.
Key Education
We train volunteers in coaching, refereeing, and first aid. As Community Clubs grow, education expands to business, marketing, and budgeting.
Social impact
Volunteers become change-makers, leading projects that tackle real
needs in their communities.
From education to infrastructure
It all starts with the game
The impact lasts a lifetime
Rugby is the starting point

Since resuming full programs after COVID, we’ve focused all our efforts on Zimbabwe.
Equipping young people with skills, confidence, and leadership that last far beyond the game. With local coaches leading the way, our programs create real opportunities, drive change, and build a future shaped by the next generation. None of this happens alone our community of partners, coaches, and supporters make the impact possible.
We’re building futures shaped by the next generation and none of it happens alone. Our partners, coaches, and supporters make every moment of impact possible.

Community-Led Projects
More than two decades
of impact.
Two decades of changing lives through rugby. Since 2002, we've built a legacy of community and connection, now rooted firmly in Zimbabwe. From grassroots programs to unforgettable tours, our hands-on approach continues to make a lasting difference—driven by passion, purpose, and a commitment to the people we work with.
Our history
2002
The Beginning
Tag Rugby Trust began with a single tour to Uganda. Using rugby as a tool for connection and learning, the foundations were laid for a community-led movement driven by sport.

2006
Expanding Horizons
TRT took its first steps beyond Uganda, delivering tours in Zambia and India. What started locally began to grow internationally, shaped by shared learning and cultural exchange.

2008
Global Recognition
TRT received the IRB Development Award, recognising its innovative use of rugby to drive education and social change, and marking a significant milestone in its global impact.

2012
Bridging Rugby and Community
Partnerships with the RFU brought England Counties teams to East Africa. Tours combined competitive rugby with deep community engagement, forging relationships that lasted beyond the pitch.

2016
Combined England internationals
International rugby players supported TRT’s Female Inspiration Through Rugby (FITR) programme in Uganda, led by Catherine Spencer and Lindsay Anfield, concluding with a match against the Uganda Lady Cranes.

2019
The TRT Hub
TRT established its permanent base in Zimbabwe. What began as a safe space evolved into a training hub for coaches, volunteers, and community leaders driving change year-round.

2022
Built Base camp - Sizinda camp, Zimbabwe
Following COVID, TRT returned with renewed focus. Sizinda Camp opened near Victoria Falls, creating an off-grid base for tours, training, and long-term community programmes.

2025
Back on Tour, Schools and New Faces
TRT’s busiest year yet welcomed schools from across the UK. New partnerships strengthened the programme, expanding reach while staying rooted in local leadership.

2026
The Next Chapter
We’ll be welcoming back our long-standing school partners, while also introducing a brand new one - Milton Abbey to the TRT family. Together, these partnerships continue to grow the two-way exchange and shared learning that sit at the heart of our tours. This year also marks an exciting step forward, as we explore opening up opportunities for TRT alumni past UK tour students, to return to Zimbabwe and reconnect with the communities, camps, and people who first shaped their journey.
This is where it begins
It starts with a ball, a pitch, and a young person stepping forward. Through locally led programmes, sport becomes a way to build confidence, skills, and opportunity — long after the game ends.
